Dr Stegman has provided an interesting historical essay on the development of the Keyes punch. Had Dr Stegman consulted my chapter entitled, "Highlights in the History of Skin Surgery,"1 he would not have made the same mistake that T had made in my original "Biographica Dermatologica" article for Cutis on Edward Lawrence Keyes.2Herman Goodman, MD, the New York dermatologist and historian of dermatology, pointed out that B. A. Watson, MD, had originally used an instrument similar to that employed by Keyes for the purpose of removing tatoos, a full decade before Keyes' publication in 1887.3Letters will be published as space permits and at the discretion of the editor.
