The authors describe one case and report on three others; they state: "To our knowledge these are the only ones reported in the English literature." We feel that this comment requires further clarification.In 1970, G. L. Beardmore et al reported 105 cases of fatal malignant melanoma; 36 (35%) of these were pedunculated ones.1 In our own series, during the years 1955 to 1976, we examined 170 patients and found ten with pedunculated melanomas. Seven of these patients are alive. Five of them (two with metastases) have survived more than five years and two have survived almost two years. One patient died of an intermittent disease and two others of metastatic melanoma.
