I recently reviewed the study of Langner and Kligman, which appeared in the Archives (105:851,1972). The study dealt with the protection afforded by aminobenzoic acid under a variety of clinical conditions. This review prompted me to calculate total amounts needed to provide the protection they observed. They stated the following: When volunteers applied aminobenzoic acid solutions to the entire trunk, as if in preparation for sunbathing, they were found to use quite different amounts, generally between 30μl to 50μl/sq cm. Extrapolating to the entire body surface, it becomes apparent that extraordinary amounts are required. One must apply 1 liter of solution at 50μl/sq cm to cover a surface area of 2 meters. Eight bottles at 4 oz each are sufficient.Incredulous, I applied 50μl and 30μl SN - 0003-987X M3 - doi: 10.1001/archderm.1974.01630010068019 UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archderm.1974.01630010068019 ER -
