N2  - Ichthyosis Vulgaris. Presented by Dr. Anthony C. Cipollaro.A girl, now aged 6½ years, was first seen at the age of 5 days covered with a generalized bullous eruption. A diagnosis of epidermolysis bullosa hereditaria was suggested at that time. The eruption responded well to polysporin ointment and calamine lotion. With the clearing of this initial eruption and over the past six years the skin has remained scaly, dry, and erythematous. The child has developed normally in all other aspects. There is no family history of significance except that the father has hay fever.The entire integument is dry, tightened, shiny, and scaly, with a slightly erythematous hue.The patient has received small doses of thyroid extract. Locally, 1% salicylic acid in various ointment bases has been used. For the past four years the process has seemed to be stabilized, resembling ichthyosis.DiscussionDr. M. J. Costello
