RT Journal A1 Jurecka W T1 ERythrokeratodermia variabilis JF Archives of Dermatology JO Archives of Dermatology YR 1986 FD December 1 VO 122 IS 12 SP 1356 OP 1356 DO 10.1001/archderm.1986.01660240018003 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/archderm.1986.01660240018003 AB To the Editor.—  I read with interest the article in the April issue of the Archives on successful treatment of erythrokeratodermia variabilis (EKV) with isotretinoin.1 In 1981, we reported a case of EKV that was treated successfully with etretinate.2 In our case, however, we could observe no abnormalities in the quantity of keratinosomes (Odland bodies) before treatment. Our results for tritiated thymidine autoradiography and electron microscopy were indicative of a proliferation hyperkeratosis together with retention hyperkeratosis. Whether the controversial results in our patient and Rappaport's patient are caused by different or insufficient techniques in investigation, or whether several morphological subtypes of EKV exist, remains unclear.
