AB Paraffinomas have become uncommon since the development of the less toxic silicones for tissue replacement. A variant of paraffinoma, sclerosing lipogranuloma, is reported occasionally and usually thought to be a reaction to the injection of mineral oil into tissues. The case presented in this report is of interest because of the large amount of mineral oil (more than 1 liter) administered to the patient, and because of the lymph node and pulmonary, as well as cutaneous, reaction to this material. Spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques for identification of the originally unknown toxic agent and clinical studies to confirm the effect of the offending agent used in this patient were performed.
