AB Star-shaped bodies consisting of long tapering arms arising from a central knob or joint are found occasionally in histologic preparations, as dust particles on microscopic slides, and, as reported by Cornelius and Shelley, in scrapings from human skin. Their plant hair nature is confirmed, but their variability in size and details of shape suggests that they do not all come from a single source. They may be derived from various species belonging to such diverse groups as mallows, viburnum, and hawkweeds.
