AB As the title would indicate, this book by an English author is primarily of interest to the urologist. Of the 31 chapters, two are of direct interest to dermatologists. These chapters are concerned with Reiter's disease and keratodermia blennorrhagica.According to the author's definition, "Reiter's disease (its etiology is unknown) is characterized by a clinical syndrome consisting of a primary abacterial urethritis of venereal origin, bilateral conjunctivitis, polyarthritis, frequently balanitis, and sometimes keratodermia blennorrhagica; cardiac and other manifestations have also been described."A thorough discussion of this syndrome is given, including history of its recognition; clinical observations in over 100 cases, illustrated by two photographs and numerous reproductions of roentgenograms; differential diagnosis; treatment, and a summary of theories and facts bearing on the etiology of the disease. The author has demonstrated (as have other recent workers) the presence of pleuropneumonia-like organisms in urethral cultures in a high percentage of cases.
