The Archives of Dermatology initiated Online First as a means to bring our readers important new articles in an expedited manner. Each month, 4 to 5 Online First articles will be published online within 6 to 8 weeks of their acceptance, followed by print publication 4 months after the online publication. Commentaries, such as Editorials and Practice Gaps, about the Online First articles are published in print. We select the most exciting and important articles to appear quickly. This initiative is part of our efforts to expedite the peer review process and reduce the time from acceptance to publication for important, clinically relevant advances that are of great interest to us all.

The Archives now offers a variety of features responding to ideas and requests by you, our readers. They include online CME quiz questions; Readers Reply, which allows online readers to submit a letter to the editor about a publication; Visit the Archives, which contacts readers at their request when a specific article is cited or allows an e-mail to be sent to a friend that includes a link to an article you specify; and videos to illustrate patient observations. Alerts allow the ability to automatically receive the table of contents of the Archives when it is published online and Topic Collections, representing collections of articles in specific topic areas to easily find the most recent publications in a field.

In 2010, we received 1486 manuscripts; 18% of original contributions were accepted with an average time from submission to the first decision of 14 days. Thus, we are receiving an increasing number of manuscripts, which are being evaluated in a timely manner in a very competitive environment. In 2009, our impact factor was 4.76.

We thank you for your loyal support of the Archives in sending to us your very best research and ask for your input to continue the process of making the journal pertinent to your dermatologic needs, lively in content, and responsive to changing times.
