To the Editor.— In our area, a new clinical entity of a hyperpigmentary disorder was noticed and followed up for the last ten years. Strikingly, the cases have a great resemblance, from every point of view, to such an extent that this new clinical entity or a new syndrome deserves to be given a place among the already known hyperpigmentary skin diseases.1,2 An appropriate name for the new entity is idiopathic pigmentation of the upper part of the back (Fig 1).The condition affects women in the age period of 20 to 50 years. None of the cases occurred in the male subjects.The site of election is, in all patients, the upper back, mainly its upper half, and the maximal affection was at the central part of the area involved. There was noticed in all cases a free area of normal-colored skin at the upper limit of the pigmentation
