ABSTRACT

This book, volume 305 in a series of publications entitled Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology, contains research and review papers about a specific topic in biomedical research, as do all of the other books in this series. This book consists of 17 articles and 34 abstracts, representing the proceedings of the Second International Symposium on Chemotactic Cytokines held in London in June 1990. Despite its broadly defined title, this book focuses exclusively on the properties and functions of cytokines that constitute the "small inducible gene" family or "intercrines" and does not include the large variety of other chemotactic factors. Members of this newly described gene family include IP10, IL-8 (NAP-1), β-TG (NAP-2), GRO (NAP-3 and MGSA), and PF-4 as well as MCAF (LDCF, MCP-1), LD 78, JE, RANTES, Act-2, MIP-1, and MIP-2.
