ABSTRACT

The occurrence of lymphogranuloma inguinale and the group of diseases caused by the same virus are no longer a rarity in China. With the aid of Frei's reaction one has no difficulty in diagnosis. Characteristic histologic changes have also been observed. Although I have nothing to say against the reliability of Frei's reaction, in a few instances I have met with difficulties in obtaining and preparing the antigen and in occasional instances I have observed failure of the antigen. The antigenic property was sometimes missing in the pus of a person with a clinically evident case, a fact which has also been confirmed by Nicolau and Bancini.

It was therefore my endeavor to find a method which would replace or complement the Frei test.

Gottlieb spoke of the action of the serum of patients convalescing from lymphogranuloma. I have tried to reexamine this problem from another point of view. I
