THE EFFECT OF GLUCOSE ON THE STABILIZATION OF SOLUTIONS OF ARSPHENAMIN AND NEO-ARSPHENAMIN

ABSTRACT

We have attempted in this experiment to determine the extent to which the addition of glucose to solutions of arsphenamin and neoarsphenamin would retard oxidation of the solution, and thus prevent deterioration on standing. Glucose has a distinctly reducing action, and it and other sugars have been employed abroad to stabilize solutions prepared in ampules so that the drug could be dispensed in this form without undergoing degeneration or change. The results indicated below are to be interpreted strictly in accordance with the conditions of the experiment, and do not apply to solutions which are kept in a vacuum in sealed ampules. A later publication will deal with this subject.
